BYU vs. Utah Football – Finding Max Hall
Above: BYU fans hold Brigham Young quarterback Max Hall (15) on their shoulders, celebrating victory after BYU defeated the University of Utah 17-10 in college football action Saturday at BYU’s Lavell Edward Stadium in Provo, Utah.
So I found myself locked out of the postgame scrum victory thing. When you’re carrying three cameras, one of which has a 600mm lens, you can’t just wade your way into a maniac crowd of fans and helmeted football players.
Walking around the chaotic periphery I spotted BYU quarterback Max Hall. Amazingly, he wasn’t surrounded by much of anyone, just hugging a teammate, Matt Allen. I approached and started shooting.
After just a few seconds, Hall was surrounded by fans. And so was I. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t have moved away from the scene. They lifted Hall onto their shoulders and I held the camera up over my head, firing off photos every second or two as the camera’s buffer cleared.
Sitting in front of my computer after the game, my mind was shot. No way I could have picked out the best frame, so I just sent all of these images, leaving the decision to the photo editor. Here’s our front page, with the best photo running big out front:
Great game, long day. Tired. Done.
The next morning, looking at the paper: Fulfilled.

Tired was the right word for after that game! When i got home at around 7 most my firends were asleep all i could do was go to sleep to.
How stupid was that rope thing!? like you i was not exptcting that at all so when the fans came i was stuned. Just another reason for me to hate on the y.
